Autumn-Winter trends 2010

For all you fashionistas out there here are pointers on the make-up trends for this season. Adapt them to suit your personality and lifestyle, by exploring and experimenting with different colours, shapes and textures for your own unique take on them.....

1) Red lipstick - all shades from very berry bright to deep dark (from Revlon, Bourjois, Chanel to YSL - great textures and shades)

2) Clean sculpted skin (prep well with moisturiser and use the appropriate base for your skin type - go light on the application and don't forget to conceal! contour eye socket area and under cheekbone with soft browns)

3) Nude 'loval' nails to compliment the skin (loval= long +oval)

4) Strong brows (a la Brooke Shields)

5) Tobacco and toffee shades (great on Indian skins - lovely for contouring.....)

6) No mascara (not sure we like this one.... hmmmmm....)

7) Kohl (quelle surprise!.......)

8) Liquid liner (get flickin')

9) Pretty girlie flush blush (always a good look.....)

10) Highlight for glow (try Faces, Benefit and Shiseido)

Stains

Mulain is always partial to good ole Bourjois, so when MU Sara suggested the Rouge hi-tech lip tint I was interested. It comes in 4 shades and is quite an economical buy at around Rs 500 only Mulain found it a little drying on the lips but did love the colours...anyone else out there found that? MU Sara swears by it though and uses it on her cheeks too....she says it's a great, cheap option instead of buying Benefit's Benetint.....so go check it out girls and boys and let us know how you get on.....have also heard that The Body Shop's lip and cheek tint is good. Mulain off to investigate...only for you my darlings...only for you!

About to start Catwalk make-up tomorrow in the academy's pro class.....Mulain's favourite..can't wait....Vogue, vogue, vogue...strike a pose.....

Ajanta inspiration....

What a day.....wow....the MUs were doing an amazingly creative shoot with an Indian magazine and a high-profile Bollywood heroine...can't say too much as it will be out on the streets in a couple of weeks....all Mulain will say is wow! Such a challenging and creative day....with the actress sitting for upto 5 hours having herself painted and pinned and drawn on and glued! Mad ....and exhausting but so worthwhile when we all looked at the photos......it was an Ajanta theme and involved sticking gold leaf on the body.....to recreate an old painting / Ajanta feel. The MUs have been prepping for a week now and using the most amazing tools to create patterns.....from dried flowers, to nails to even ladies fingers (Okra).....Can't wait to show you all the shoot....will give you all a proper product breakdown then....Phew...everyone exhausted ....!

Mulain is super excited to see our lovely Freida P's new film Miral...releasing September 3 2010 at Venice if my sources are correct. So excited for her and all the MUs are wishing her so much well deserved success, she is such a lovely, talented, hardworking gal....mwah! Sounds like a fabulous story too ..... true, interesting, poignant, gritty and a subject relevant to all our lives. We need these sorts of films to remind us of how fortunate we are and how we should always be ready and aware of helping people of all communities.

While we are on the subject of helping others...Mulain will be letting you know about how you can help Leh and Ladakh....so watch this space. Poor Pakistan, Leh, China.....so sad my friends.....so lend a helping hand wherever you can and remember how lucky we all are!

Ok - back to work....prepping for cool cosmetics TVC tomorrow with the same fab UK director Harvey Bertram-Brown....Mulain and the team worked on the Indigo Airlines ad with him...hoping to recreate the same magic and fun. 1960s make-up in the academy tomorrow....eyelines, eyelines, eyelines girls...and boy! Get practicing....

Nighty night...up to 5am to reach film city in time....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ....M x

Current make-up trends

Mulain is looking forward to the Autumn / Winter make-up looks coming out.....particularly the dark gothic glamour lips and the graphic eye! Wow.....get your eyepencils, crayons, cremes, gels on stand-by to create some simply marvellous shapes and intensity points. Got a favourite? Mulain would love to know....we love Benefit's Bad Gal big chunky pencil and MAC's black-track liner in a pot.

Oh la la...La Roux

Was chatting in the academy today about current trends.....Mulain suggested to the class that they check out La Roux....most of the new batch of MU-ettes had no idea of who she is....so first lesson in class is ...know your current youth icons.....they are the trend-setters my darlings...so above a few make-up looks from La Roux....lovin' her looks...very Lady Gaga, mad and fun....adventurous and brave.....no fear of experimentation. Love it!

Mulain was in class at the MU academy and one of our lovely MU-ettes showed us a new lipstick purchase.....Wunderbar....what a lovely shade, it put me in a good mood all day. YSL produced this little number......and Mulain explored a few shades from the same line.....something for everyone my darlings and such beautiful textures! Once trying there is no turning back. Looks great, lasts long, does n't dry lips and has a SPF in there as well. Mulain says get to the YSL counters and try them out yourself!

It's because I care.....and we MU-st practice what we preach......we tell all our fat mu students and fellows MUs to watch their backs while working at all times......so important, health is wealth. Make sure your working environment is comfortable for you to do your job properly....bend over as little as possible. Don't lug big bags on your shoulders...get some wheels now! Make yourself mobile, portable and get into the habit now. Also wearing comfy, shoes with cushioned soles will change your life for the better.....Do I sound like I am nagging today....it's because I care my darlings..Mulain wants you to have a long career....not a few years of the good life then stooped and in pain for the rest.

Natural lips!

Mulain was listening to the news this morning...my goodness so much going on in our global vill-age!.....Moscow is threatened by fires, poor Pakistan is suffering awful tragic floods, Naomi Campbell in court over a blood diamond and lots of Billionaires giving away their money (Mulain loves Warren Buffett).....in amongst all this Mulain was sent a message from one of our favourite MU-ses about a brand called KORRES, read on my friends (some light relief!).....

This Greek brand available through sephora (http://www.sephora.com/) puts emphasis on natural skin care and beauty products.....example...all the lippy products above have yummy sounding fruit names and are packed with Vitamins and nutrients for your lips. They contain NO Parabens, Sulpates, GMOs, synthetic fragrances etc....Mulain loves this idea! Natural lips...lovely idee non? Lots of other products also with this brand...great colours, good packaging, nice ethics....Mulain is ticking those boxes....it all seems good!

Mulain saw GQ's 'gangster' style fashion story that MU Xavier did for the August issue. Such fun and he has done such a great job ....have to say the whole creative team worked super well together.....captained by photographer Tarun Vishwa. Mulain loves it! Most artistes love doing special effects but never get enough chances to create bruises, cuts, grazes etc in their work. You all should be ready for it my darlings.....Xavier was booked to do this GQ shoot with some warning that there would be a bit of blood etc....actually he had to do bruising plus scarring.....so make sure you know your stuff!

There is quite a demand for sfx (that's special effects for those not in the know) ....the fat mu academy include it as an intro in the 8 week pro course and we also run sessions for beginners.....MU Xavier is in hot demand after this shoot! Interested ...... mail us at fatmuadmin@gmail.com .....

Does anyone remember 1988 when Flo-Jo (Florence Griffith-Joyner) became the fastest women in the world, and she is still unbeaten. Mulain fell in love with her, the crowds loved her, the cameras loved her and think nail technicians and artists thanked their lucky stars. Flo-Jo not only created a sensation with her athletic ability but it was also those nails!!!!!! She took nail art and fake nails and put them out there for the world to see! Girls have never looked back. Now it's 2010 and we can't imagine a world without coloured nails, fake nails, pierced nails etc etc. Flo-Jo came onto the scene when a French manicure was considered different and wild! She injected glamour and personality to the world of the athletics and possibly sport, even before Le Beckham was on the scene!

Now at the current European Championships the gals are looking equally snazzy and glam. Hair looks good, polish on nails....and apparently fake lashes have been spotted! What an image conscious world eh? But I guess if they still have the talent looking good at the same time may not be a bad thing......Mulain is just so used to the idea of the female athlete just being an athlete.....admired for the ability not the looks. These ladies of 2010 realise if they look good they 'll get sponsorships and lots of money!!! Think Anna Kournakova.....she put the blonde into tennis! So maybe they are all talented, smart and looking good is the icing on the cake.

Mulain is looking forward to India hosting the Commonwealth games.....watch this space.

Mulain's MU-se of the day

is....drum roll pleeeeezzzeee.....Madame Dhruvi Acharya ....one of India's (and the world's) brightest artistic stars......what a talent! The MUs first met Dhruvi during filming of the Loins of Punjab back in 2005, her equally talented husband is Manish Acharya who directed it. Mulain keeps hearing about this latest trend for grey eyes.....Harper's Bazaar UK was raving about it as was make-up madame Val Garland. Now before you think 'grey?' ....how dull?....remember there is a grey out there for everyone and in different textures. So Mulain says get out there and have a play around......cremes, powders, pencils....charcoal grey, silver grey, tin grey, matt grey....smokey or subtle take your pick from Chambor to Chanel, Lakme to Lancome.....shop around.

MU-ettes fashion show

Mulain was with MU Sara and her team of MU-ettes creating looks for a charity fashion show in town. All worked very hard and designed looks for make-up and hair...asking Sara to jot down all her design notes and looks for you guys.....am sure you would love to know what she did. She had to be clever and create something that complemented 5 different designers, as there was no time for change in between! Not easy for sure.....well done fellow MU-ettes and hope you had a good time doing it.

MU Virginia is up to her eyeballs in Victorian hairstyling in Jaipur and MU Natasha and the team are creating magic in the classroom! It's all about bases this week...tricky but imperative to learn....as we all know the 'foundation' is the foundation of any make-up look. Am I right or am I right?

Victorian beauty

Mulain nipped up to MU Virginia's shoot in Jaipur.....Jewellery campaign with a Victorian / vintage theme. Lots of looks to conjure up.....15 Victorian hair styles and make-up looks to achieve in 3 days....phew....great creative challenge though my friends. MU Virginia was keeping it very simple and realistic for a true Victorian look and feel, so no gloss or shimmers allowed.....concentrating on great looking skin, natural flushed and rosy cheeks, natural lips...the art of invisibility for this look.....make-up is on but looks like no make-up my friends. Take note my darlings....these are some of the products she is using....

Ben Nye's lip pencil - Wine Berry...for a lovely natural lip colour....applied all over the lip area
Ben Nye's transparent mascara - used to keep brows in check and on the lashes

Mulain is dying to watch the new US sitcom on the NBC network. Starts two months today.... 23rd September....meant to be as funny as 'The Office'. Www.nbc.com/outsourced/ .....check out for a sneaky preview. Mulain has so much interest as our MU-ettes worked on the film version back in 2006! Hope you all have seen it.....starring India's own darling Ayesha Dharker and New York's talented actor Josh Hamilton. MU Natasha designed the hair and make-up for it and MU's Virginia and Xavier flanked her throughout and had a complete blast. What a fun film to make with a lovely director John Jeffcoat.

Hope you are intent on having fun this weekend.....Mulain certainly is.....out to paint the town all sorts of colours. The pro class in the fat mu academy will be frazzled today as it's colour theory!!!! Tres difficult to understand and get your head around.....but don't give up my darlings.....it will all click into place.
