Kryolan Mumbai

Mulain was with MUs Virginia and Natasha today at the Andheri Kryolan store....catching up with the Kryolan team and checking out new products and things that caught our eye...lots of lovely colour palettes - aqua / cremes / suprapalettes...a feast for the eye. Mulain spotted the little metallic creme colour wheel (30 ml) with 6 fab colours - gold, copper, silver, bronze, pearl and pearl red Mulain especially loved the copper and gold! Great for creating glam effects for events and brides...and good value at Rs. 850...very tempted might nip back and collect.

Kryolan city coming to Bandra hopefully sometime soon...we at fat mu can't wait!

Make-up from the streets!

Shop til you drop . . . .

but not from the streets!

Ok..little tip from Mulain today....don't buy make-up from the streets!!! As a pro make-up artist you CANNOT buy MAC or Bobbi Brown or any other brand from an unknown source. We know that you think you're getting a bargain and saving your money...but bottom line is you don't know where the make-up has come from and you don't know what's in it! Imagine putting it on a client's face or body and an allergy happens or skin erupts...you don't look very professional and you may be harming that person. So really think about the responsibility of being an artist. Always buy the real McCoy that way you protect yourself, if there are any issues with a brand or product you can always take the product back!

So be sensible and invest your cash wisely! Here endeth the lesson.....

Perfect your eyelines!

Perfect your eyelines!
Not getting right effect...change your brush!

Sephora little eye kits...how cute na?

Hey girls and boys....hope all cool with you and your worlds. All good in MU-town.....pro class in week two...working hard and getting to know 'bases' and 'faces'....1 week intro to make-up work shop on too....and our MU-ettes are off shooting in Rajasthan with the lovely Dev Patel and Maggie Smith, Judi Dench...how cool is that? Busy little bees....
Mulain has been out and about recently and loving seeing what people are wearing make-up wise...have spotted quite a few ladies having a go with the trend of retro eyelines....some getting it right, some not at all!! Remember if you are just starting out....start with an aqua liner...that way if you make a mistake, a quick dab with a cotton bud and water, remove your 'error', 'smudge' and start again! Start small with a slight flick and out ...when you get fast and confident with this...then move onto your Sharila T 60s stuff! Easy-squeezy....also if you are using a brush that's too thin you will not get that lovely thick retro line.....try your lip brush...see the difference. Once your eyelines are on with the aqua, you can always intensify the line with MAC's Blacktrack or Lakme's liquid liner for that extra staying power.
Get lining my friends...it's a lot of fun!

Nars Bento Box Sets

Lovely Japanese inspiration...product, tools and brushes

highly pigmented lip colour....

Kabuki theatre

Japanese inspired brushes.....

Kabuki theatre from 1794!!!

Nars goes Japanese ....
Mulain is always preaching about putting the 'art' into make-up......well, Mulain's favourite MU-se Nomita sent us a Francois Nars link this morning about the new limited edition Bento Box Sets available from November....to-tally up our alley. Mulain is determined to get his hooves on one of these....they look just gorgeous and LOVE the concept and artistry behind it all. For those who like all things artistic, you are going to really appreciate his idea and vision....merci Monsieur Nars you are truly an artist. These sets are inspired from Japanese Kabuki theatre (dates back to 1603).....two porcelain bowels sit in a handmade bento box, each one filled with hand-poured, highly-pigmented lip colours....Maiko, a vivid red and Sakura, a bright pink! Plus there is a handmade Kabuki lip brush, it's handle wrapped in Wisteria....has Mulain wet your creative appetites? It's is a lovely way to paint your lips just as a performer would do. Magical!
In class now with MU Natasha....first week of the pro class nearly over...my how time flies....hope you have a lovely weekend my darlings....caio for now...M x

Wonder product!

This wonder products we MU's recently discovered at Clarins is great for all of us who are getting on in life or have had too much sun.

Instant smooth perfecting touch - gives exactly what the product claims.... instant smoothness!

A balm of sorts, which you smooth over your face prior to make-up application to fill in and smooth out any lines and creases temporarily. Worth checking out - a lot cheaper than botox with no side effects!! .... and it works!!! Within reason of course........Try it.

Natural lips!

Mulain was listening to the news this morning...my goodness so much going on in our global vill-age!.....Moscow is threatened by fires, poor Pakistan is suffering awful tragic floods, Naomi Campbell in court over a blood diamond and lots of Billionaires giving away their money (Mulain loves Warren Buffett).....in amongst all this Mulain was sent a message from one of our favourite MU-ses about a brand called KORRES, read on my friends (some light relief!).....
This Greek brand available through sephora (http://www.sephora.com/) puts emphasis on natural skin care and beauty products.....example...all the lippy products above have yummy sounding fruit names and are packed with Vitamins and nutrients for your lips. They contain NO Parabens, Sulpates, GMOs, synthetic fragrances etc....Mulain loves this idea! Natural lips...lovely idee non? Lots of other products also with this brand...great colours, good packaging, nice ethics....Mulain is ticking those boxes....it all seems good!
Check it out....M x
P.S. - Thanks for the tip Madame Morrison...you're too cool for school! Mwah!

Shiseido accentuating color stick

Champagne color stick.....

Know Mulain has written about this product before....quite a few times...but there is a reason for this....it's too good! Was with MU Virginia shooting for a skin TVC for the last few days and was watching how just a dab of this creme on the face created such a beautiful, natural glow and finish to the skin. The art of the flawless skin my friends is about sophisticated subtley and finesse in the strokes of course.

So a reminder to you all ....get this for your kits...or at least go and check it out!

Robert Pattinson's Twilight make-up

Jeanne Van Phue was the make-up designer for Robert Pattinson's look in Twilight........Natasha MU has gone particurlarly nuts over this current 'it' boy and she is convinced it's the make-up that has put her head and heart in a spin. For a breakdown of the look and tips from Van Phue head to www.makeup411.com/breakdowns/id/381/ she gives her take on the look for the film....always interesting for us artistes. She raves about SK-II Airtouch....Mulain is off to investigate.....she claims it's fab and water-resistent. Don't worry my dears...am on it!
Let's chat Monday....M x

Make-up Factory....

Also....these individual baked eye shadows are stunning...check them out...!!

Mulain 'as to tell you about the bridal party we made-up on Friday night. Firstly, what a lovely family....a de-light to work on! Plus all lovely canvases.....3 sisters and maman who was also lovely looking. Mulain followed MU Virginia and the gang (Soma, Prajakta, Mona) to the fabulous Taj Gateway hotel where we checked in to a room and set up, ready to start our bridal work. What Mulain loved about these 4 ladies was that each one wanted something different...and knew their own minds......our challenge was to create individuality and keep them looking good as a group too. Sister no. 1 , Le Bride....a matt powder, tradional look with red lips....Sister no.2.....silver, blue eye shadow, big lashes, high glamour. Sister no.3 a light make-up look on the eyes, not heavy glamour and lastly maman ....Marilyn Monroe lips and a 'Roman' nose!!!! As you can see each had individual tastes. Our MU Soma took care of the bridal look and did a fantastic job....bravo Soma. MU Virginia worked on the remaining ladies and tried to give them something they were all happy with. For Sister no.2 she used Make-up Factory's blue/aqua/silver eye quad, which gave a beautiful shimmery silver effect. Have to say Mulain was really impressed with quads that Make-up Factory do...great colour combinations and so effective. You can pick these up at New Beauty Centre, S.V. Road, Khar. Used MAC's Backtrack black fluid line for eyeliner, for a strong, long-lasting effect and we did fabulous big lashes, again by MAC. Sister No.3 we used a green/khaki Make-up Factory colour (again great quad sets)...for a subtle, shimmering effect and a strong retro 60s eyeline just on top. Lashes topped the look. With both girls and Maman Virginia used NYX's cream blushers, and to intensify the colour on the cheeks she went on top with NYX's mosaic blushers. Serious wow-factor. Mummy of the bride was given lovely glowing skin, MAC's shimmering woodwinked on the lids and a black smoke around the eyes. Subtle but statement.
We had 4 happy ladies, with fresh flowers in their hair....and we all know a smile is the icing on the cake....the MUs were happy. So my friends do go check out Make-up Factory eye shadow quads.....so many colour combos to choose from get ready to enjoy...

Time to get Reel!

Mulain was told by the cameraman on a recent TV commercial that the 'stubble look' that the MUs created was so real that he wanted to know what we used. So we let him in on a little secret of ours..... Reel Palettes..... http://www.reelcreations.com/ ....... We at fat mu have a selection of their palettes but the one above is the most popular and versatile one available.....you can create bruises, black eyes, cuts, stubble, cover tattoos, scars etc.....quick easy palette to work with and lasts! To create the stubble look that was complimented....we had a black stipple sponge, some Isopropyl Alchohol and mixed the black, green and blue together to get the right effect and colour. Remember never just make stubble black in colour....this will look fake. It must look real, work slowly and carefully following the natural beardline of the artist...stippling carefully. If you go too heavy, don't panic my friends...just get a cotton bud, dab it with the alchohol and stipple over the part you want to correct. Ben Nye do black stipple sponges at New Beauty Centre, Khar. Available also at any professional beauty shop in the USA and UK.

Mulain suggests you check out the Reel Creations site to see which palette you need. A definite worthwhile investment sadly not available in India yet....the MUs are working on it.

Blot til you drop!

This is the first blot paper Mulain ever tried...ah memories....
Even Paul and Joe are in the blotting biz....

Highly dependable and easy on the pocket!

Great brand....great product...

Good Ol' Sephora.....

Lovely clean packaging from Clinique non?

How cute......

Mulain is a sucker for the Japanese packaging...I just loo-ve...

Estee Lauder offer ulti-matte .....very good, very good...

One of the best on the market....

Lovely minimal packaging....
Mulain's top tip this weekend is.... try 'blotting papers'......for the professional and non-professional .....these little beauties are available from all over the world....in many different styles (Mulain is partial to the Japanese ones....am a sucker for packaging my friends).....and in super cute / stylish / minimal packs. They are great for absorbing excess oil from the face. So if you're worried about over-washing / cleansing your face.... or worried about over powdering your artists face in a desperate attempt to get rid of shine... try these little gems, they will remove that oily film which appears on your skin and makes you feel all yucky. They also don't disturb your make-up (as long as you just blot and not rub hard!!!!).....great for shoots too...carry in your set bags / pouches...MUs Virginia and Natasha have both used these on actors in the last year......they work like a treat. Non-fuss and easy.
Let me know how you get on......and Happy Easter!
