Does anyone remember 1988 when Flo-Jo (Florence Griffith-Joyner) became the fastest women in the world, and she is still unbeaten. Mulain fell in love with her, the crowds loved her, the cameras loved her and think nail technicians and artists thanked their lucky stars. Flo-Jo not only created a sensation with her athletic ability but it was also those nails!!!!!! She took nail art and fake nails and put them out there for the world to see! Girls have never looked back. Now it's 2010 and we can't imagine a world without coloured nails, fake nails, pierced nails etc etc. Flo-Jo came onto the scene when a French manicure was considered different and wild! She injected glamour and personality to the world of the athletics and possibly sport, even before Le Beckham was on the scene!

Now at the current European Championships the gals are looking equally snazzy and glam. Hair looks good, polish on nails....and apparently fake lashes have been spotted! What an image conscious world eh? But I guess if they still have the talent looking good at the same time may not be a bad thing......Mulain is just so used to the idea of the female athlete just being an athlete.....admired for the ability not the looks. These ladies of 2010 realise if they look good they 'll get sponsorships and lots of money!!! Think Anna Kournakova.....she put the blonde into tennis! So maybe they are all talented, smart and looking good is the icing on the cake.

Mulain is looking forward to India hosting the Commonwealth games.....watch this space.

Now we know it's Chanel so it's world-class for sure.......it's great to see Peter Philips the make-up maestro behind the new range talk passionately about it and his inspirations for it. No seduction needed my friend we all know how good a lipstick feels and how it can make or break a look. Chanel has 37 shades available so Mulain says go check them out....there is one for everyone.

Mulain's MU-se of the day

is....drum roll pleeeeezzzeee.....Madame Dhruvi Acharya ....one of India's (and the world's) brightest artistic stars......what a talent! The MUs first met Dhruvi during filming of the Loins of Punjab back in 2005, her equally talented husband is Manish Acharya who directed it. Mulain keeps hearing about this latest trend for grey eyes.....Harper's Bazaar UK was raving about it as was make-up madame Val Garland. Now before you think 'grey?' ....how dull?....remember there is a grey out there for everyone and in different textures. So Mulain says get out there and have a play around......cremes, powders, pencils....charcoal grey, silver grey, tin grey, matt grey....smokey or subtle take your pick from Chambor to Chanel, Lakme to Lancome.....shop around.

MU-ettes fashion show

Mulain was with MU Sara and her team of MU-ettes creating looks for a charity fashion show in town. All worked very hard and designed looks for make-up and hair...asking Sara to jot down all her design notes and looks for you guys.....am sure you would love to know what she did. She had to be clever and create something that complemented 5 different designers, as there was no time for change in between! Not easy for sure.....well done fellow MU-ettes and hope you had a good time doing it.

MU Virginia is up to her eyeballs in Victorian hairstyling in Jaipur and MU Natasha and the team are creating magic in the classroom! It's all about bases this week...tricky but imperative to learn....as we all know the 'foundation' is the foundation of any make-up look. Am I right or am I right?

Victorian beauty

Mulain nipped up to MU Virginia's shoot in Jaipur.....Jewellery campaign with a Victorian / vintage theme. Lots of looks to conjure up.....15 Victorian hair styles and make-up looks to achieve in 3 days....phew....great creative challenge though my friends. MU Virginia was keeping it very simple and realistic for a true Victorian look and feel, so no gloss or shimmers allowed.....concentrating on great looking skin, natural flushed and rosy cheeks, natural lips...the art of invisibility for this look.....make-up is on but looks like no make-up my friends. Take note my darlings....these are some of the products she is using....

Ben Nye's transparent mascara - used to keep brows in check and on the lashes

fat mu's make-up and hair design.......

Mulain is dying to watch the new US sitcom on the NBC network. Starts two months today.... 23rd September....meant to be as funny as 'The Office'. Www.nbc.com/outsourced/ .....check out for a sneaky preview. Mulain has so much interest as our MU-ettes worked on the film version back in 2006! Hope you all have seen it.....starring India's own darling Ayesha Dharker and New York's talented actor Josh Hamilton. MU Natasha designed the hair and make-up for it and MU's Virginia and Xavier flanked her throughout and had a complete blast. What a fun film to make with a lovely director John Jeffcoat.

Hope you are intent on having fun this weekend.....Mulain certainly is.....out to paint the town all sorts of colours. The pro class in the fat mu academy will be frazzled today as it's colour theory!!!! Tres difficult to understand and get your head around.....but don't give up my darlings.....it will all click into place.

Jackson Pollock!

Not another tortured artiste I hear you cry....Well this one may have been a little anguished...but still worth checking out for sure. This post is mainly directed at our new MU-ettes in pro make-up class...but to all you aspiring make-up artistes too....check out the work of Jackson Pollock and see his technique, see his break away from tradition and how he was a key figure in Abstract Expressionism. Have n't heard of either? Umm? Well time to get with the programme my friends....yes that's right....get on your search engines and the information is at your fingertips. Very exciting.

This day in history Mr. Neil Armstrong and Mr. Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. Can you imagine my friends what an amazing thing? (Lots of conspiracies to disagree with their landing I know...but think it really did happen). So celebrating the beauty of the moon today and so Mulain checked out where the 'moon' appeared in beauty......see above for some fun, fab moon inspired products. Loving the Opi polish name...too cool na? And Benefit's 'Moonbeam' is just a lovely, lovely product....not as much impact as the 'Highbeam' .....but equally beautiful in its effect.

So Mulain is running around helping the MUs get ready for batch 2 of the pro make-up course. Our new permanent academy is open on Hill Road above Ray's cafe....would love to see any of you so do drop by.....

Mulain is super excited and sitting at home creating his own on-line MAC custom made palettes. Superb, what better way to while away those rainy Monsoon nights then playing around with colours galore and checking out what is possible in the palette world. All you have to do is drag your shade into the palette size of your choice....name it and it's yours...now just how spoilt are we? Know Mulain has written about this product before....quite a few times...but there is a reason for this....it's too good! Was with MU Virginia shooting for a skin TVC for the last few days and was watching how just a dab of this creme on the face created such a beautiful, natural glow and finish to the skin. The art of the flawless skin my friends is about sophisticated subtley and finesse in the strokes of course.

So a reminder to you all ....get this for your kits...or at least go and check it out!

Mulain is a huge fan of Cate Blanchett.......after seeing her as the face of SK-II I went on-line to see her images in all of the roles she has done........Mulain thought wow! How versatile and amazing is this woman....then I realised it's not just her talent but the creative teams that create her looks for her characters......that's make-up and hair my friends. MU Natasha's mentor Jenny Shircore created the look for Elizabeth....if you have n't seen it....then do!!!!! And also Benji Button....how she ages......truly cool.

SK-II

For those of you not familiar with the SK-II brand let Mulain fill you in.......around 30 years ago a Japanese scientist noticed that the hands of the ladies who worked in a local Sake factory were so soft and young.....taking a few years of research he found out what the magic ingredient was - Pitera! So he came up with a skincare brand which contained this wonder 'discovery'.... go onto http://www.sk-ii.com/ and read all about it...quite interesting my friends.

SK-II has become known as one of the most exclusive / expensive beauty brands in the world. Plus with Madame Blanchett endorsing it, it exudes confidence and sophistication. Mulain had read that Robert Pattinson's make-up artist had used the airtouch foundation by SK-II on him to create his look. Mulain was intrigued....so went searching on the net and seemingly found huge amounts of fans around the world. However also read the SK-II have withdrawn the airtouch foundation in UK as of January 2010...due to lack of sales.....Ummm....confused.com....on a mission to get to the bottom of this....Wikipedia say that due to this withdrawal SK-II faces lawsuit world as they were still selling applicators for this at 90 GBP and not telling their customers about the discontinuation.....naughty SK-II!

Anyway...would still love to try the product as it's meant to be Su-perb.

In the office with the MUs today, getting ready for our next batch of pro make-up...starting July 19th....MU Natasha was shooting all weekend for a Sunsilk TVC......MU Virginia prepping for our shoot this week...busy busy....keeping us all out of mischief!

Robert Pattinson's Twilight make-up

Jeanne Van Phue was the make-up designer for Robert Pattinson's look in Twilight........Natasha MU has gone particurlarly nuts over this current 'it' boy and she is convinced it's the make-up that has put her head and heart in a spin. Ok....Mulain is worried....we ALL love these amazing coloured nail polishes that are around and fashionable at the moment....in fact we are in nail heaven darlings! BUT....and it's a big BUT......look after your nails......especially toenails as we tend to forget them! So quick personal check up today.....are your toenails yellow???? If so.....1) take off your polish 2) get a pedicure 3) don't put polish on for at least a week 4) wear closed shoes at least for a week......GIVE YOUR FEET TIME TO RECOVER!

For girls on the go!

Mulain was chatting with the MUs in the office today and discussing dry shampoo (as one does).....Virginia MU was raving about a brand called Batiste, been around for ages but became known as something your Grandma would use....then popstress Sophie Ellis Bextor said in an interview that it was her biggest beauty tip, the brand has never looked back since! Washing your hair everyday can be a pain, am I right? Oui....so great, now we all have to do is buy a spray can and every now and again when we're not in the mood or we're in a rush get spraying!!!! Target your hairline, or where you hair gets oily / greasy.....hold can a few inches away from your head and spritz where you feel you need to.....leave for a bit then comb through. It's fab my darlings.....buy it and try it! Chalo! If you can't pop down to good old Boots then make your own (google Dry Shampoo homemade recipes) or Beautiful in Bandra stock some.
