Mu Sara trotted along to New beauty centre and found some amazing buys with make-up factory and color bar.

Great eyeshadow quads at Make-up factory with a lovely array of colours and textures.

After a 40% discount ( which they are offering if you tell them you are a make-up artist and will promote the brand... as we are :) )it works to a bargain price of just Rs 900 per quad ! great me thinks given how expensive make-up is nowadays!!!

She also picked up a lovely bright purply pink lipstick - great for the new spring looks for.. get this- just Rs 90! usual MRP for their lipsticks anyway Rs 150!

Le White Pencil!

Just a quick tip for all make-up artistes packing for their shoots, bridals, event make-ups etc...don't forget to pack your white eye pencil. MU Sara has Stage Color White Pencil which she picked up for around Rs. 200...not bad eh? This little product can make all the difference to your make-ups. Opens the eyes up and makes the look more dramatic...don't go too over the top though...it's not Alice In Wonderland (unless you want it to be).

MUs are prepping for shoots and events and classes. Hope you all watched the Golden Globes..tell me who looked good? Mulain loo-ves the award season..so much dazzle and glitter!

Pedicures in the city

We all know the importance of a good pedicure living in Mumbai... and so Mulain decided to try a few places to see which one offered a really good service that did'nt kill the pocket.....

Lets start with the most expensive......

The salon at the Taj Lands end: Really good pedicures... as one would expect from a 5 star salon, comfortable reclining chairs, quiet , spacious, relaxing ambience with well trained technicians...... Highly recommended if you need a bit of pampering should your purse allow it... prices start at Rs 700

Nail Bar- Considering they specialise in nails only it should be THE place to go for your mani's and pedi's......

Lovely reclining chairs and well trained staff again... What especially stood out was the extremely wide range of O.P.I colours and products available.... this is the place to go to buy your nail colours...... but inspite of it all was disappointed with the service.... although my pedicure was'nt bad it was'nt the best either.... and hygiene standards did have me cringing a bit if I am to be honest...... basic pedicure from Rs 400..

Agile fingers- Good pedicures but too busy and noisy! basic small crammed space with too many clients and staff bustling in and out .... not at all plush or relaxing if thats what your after...... although saying that the staff is well trained and seem to be constantly in demand.... difficult to get an appointment last minute....

Verdict: Good... but they did'nt rock my world...

Pedicures for Rs 400...

Bottlegreen - Sweet little salon located opposite Hawaiin shack... small and quiet with just the right amount of people and a relaxing atmosphere. With only 4 stations it gives you enough personal space to enjoy your treatments . Nice friendly staff who are well trained and use O.P.I products..... had a really nice pedicure there that lasted a long time and all for a bargain price of Rs 325! ...

Pink of Hearts

Recently Mu Natasha did yet another skin commercial where the brief for nails were clean healthy looking naturally pink nails.... almost a shell pink colour .... nothing that looked painted.

Bargain brushes!

MU Sara was dispatched to New Beauty Centre for a reccie ....browsing the beauty / make-up / skincare items and came back with this yummy little brush set. Best thing is it's Rs. 170....how cool is that? Each brush doubles up and each is versatile and usable. A powder/blush brush with a blender on the end, an eyeliner brush with a wand, a lip filler and liner combo and a shadow and aplicator option. Tres cool! So guys and dolls get yourselves down to New Beauty Centre and ask for the set (called Audreys brush set...probably made in China)...what a cute gift for someone...including yourself ;)....Mulain x

False lash effect!

Mulain loo-ves his new mascara by Max Factor.....it has amazing reviews so had to try it myself...it's long-lasting, does n't clump and gives uber volume and that false lash effect that we all love! It's on today and I am fluttering my lashes around Bandra West, what a show-off I hear you cry! It's not super cheap but I think it's well worth the money....I got mine from UK...will try and find out if it's available in Bollywoodland :).

Sex and the City Workshop!

The SATC gals...easy and breezy glam!

Mulain is getting super excited about the 'Sex and the City' make-up workshop of the month happening at the fat mu academy on 15th Sat Jan, 11am to 1pm. 2 hours of fun, informative, effective make-up tips and tricks so all attendees can walk away feeling confident that they can create that flawless, easy-breezy glam look in 5 to 10 mins! Sounds impossible?...it's not!...the MUs will show you how. So do come join the fun alone or you and some friends together? Mulain will see you there.

MUs Menaka and Xavier and Prajakta are prepping for working on Life of Pi with UK make-up designer Fae Hammond. Super excited and gearing up for the Indian schedule of the film. MU Virginia picked up for herself a fab and cost effective liquid eyeliner in London. Rimmel's liner is easy to apply and lasts!....MU Virginia's eyelines lasted a 20 hour shoot! Woo hoo, she is delighted! So know anyone travelling get them to pick one up. Sexy definition all in one little product and it's a lovely intense black. So get out there on your Friday nights my darlings and starting lining. Enjoy M x

Just off now to check it out...food is Euro / Bistro style and all write-ups so far have been great! Bon chance Amman! Now you might think why is Mulain writing about a cafe on a make-up blog? Well...we all know cafes / coffee or tea house culture is the perfect environment to relax/unwind/escape/talk/chat ideas/spread ideas/argue ideas/get inspired....check out 1900s Vienna if you don't believe me. Those little hotspots of gathering helped shaped the 20th century!! So roll on cafe culture I say. Get your little hooves trotting down there to get inspired and share thoughts of the day. Remember my fellow artistes and friends, you are shaping the world around you and of course have a cake while you are at it :).

Smoke Signal

Smoke Signal by Boots No. 17

MU Virginia brought back for me a lovely little nail polish called Smoke Signal by Boots No.17....you look at it in the little 8ml bottle and think 'yuck...murky grey'...and that how would it look good...and yet....it does. It not only looks good ..it looks quite cool and very glam. Day or night this colour can do both, versatility at your fingertips (excuse the pun). It promises 5 days of colour, and chip proof....lets see shall we? Also 2 coats with the larger, easier to handle brush. It's a good price too, only about 3GP. They have a great colour range actually, so have a look and see what suits you.

Benefit Pppprowl!

What fun! MU Virginia has brought me back from lovely London a new snazzy Benefit lip and eye duo stick. One end is an irridescent lip gloss and the other a blue glitter / irridescent mascara...am so excited at trying this out...to-tally gearing up for the Disco look of the season. This little gem is just under 20 GBP...not cheap...but when has London been cheap for shopping my friends. Anyway...not important...'it's the time to disco...tra la la'....

Winter's Bone

Mulain saw Winter's Bone and so enjoyed this gripping tale. Great direction from Debra Granik, superb performance from youngster Jennifer Lawrence and great characters. Story is set in the US in the Ozark mountains of the South. Hard, gritty life tales and of course Mulain was looking at the make-up. Real life 'no make-up' looks...great detailing from hair to nails to lips...invisible make-up. Mulain's must-see movie of the month...also highly recommend 'The Kids Are Alright!'...great performances again...get to a movie hall near you my friends.

Hope you are all gearing up for the holiday season...ho ho ho! MU Virginia has landed in Arctic UK...it's chill to the bone weather out there right now. Even Mumbai has the chill factor non?

Still got dry skin?

Ok...it's emergency situation for all the MU's in India and UK....skin so dry it's like a matchbox.....our MUse Nomita is trying Glycerine....MU Virginia is onto Kiehls's Ultra face cream! It really is helping allieviate the rough effect and give comfort to the skin...so Mulain says if you know anyone who is travelling get them to pick some up for you....seems the whole world has frozen over. White Christmas for millions again!

Our show with Raelle P went really well....well done MU-ettes Bianca, Ekta, Reshma and Deepti and of course our MUs Prajakta and Xavier who were brilliant under pressure backstage. Bravo and roll on the January shows.

Mumbai Sound of Music cast 2011!

MU Virginia has been busy busy this week with designing the Hair and Make-up for Raelle Padamsee's production of The Sound Of Music, everyone's favourite musical! So keeping in with the times of Austria and the 1930s the fat mu team created looks for the children...all 7 of them and of course Maria, the Captain and the wonderfully elegant Baroness. Wigs, styling, make-up lists and lots of technical rehearsing to do. Mulain just loves the world of theatre....show time is Wednesday night, a preview show...other performances happening end of Jan and early Feb 2011. Do come and see!

fat mu at 'out of the blue'

Grandma's Recipe

This one's been prompted by the cool weather we've been having off late and the dryness everyone's skins seem to be feeling.... an so to the rescue comes Glycerine!

Mulain's sister was struggling to find even the richest creams doing the trick and then she remembered what grandma Mulain used to use- good 'ol glycerine.

Glycerine is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture to the skin, thereby moisturising and softening the skin too.

Use with a little water on damp skin .... pat on... and let it do it's thing.... seems to work!

Double up!

A quick guide on how you can make some of your products multi task...

Lip tints and lipsticks = cheek stains and blusher

Brown/ black eyeshadow = eyebrow filler

Pale sheeny/ shimmery eye shadow = highlighter

Kajal / Kohl pencil = black smudgy smoky eye

Soft coloured eye pencils = coloured eyeshadow

Mascara = eyeliner ( applied with a brush)

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream = hand and face moisturiser / lip balm/ lip gloss

Liquid foundation + moisturiser = tinted moisturiser
