So I think we all agree this years Oscars were a bit blah..... not only the mood, the show but also the general look.

The Oscars are about the best films, actors, technicians but also about fashion... and everyone tunes in not only to see the show, the stars but also what they're wearing and who's style stands out more than others.

This year... the only word that comes to mind is Generic glamour... sure there were a few lovelies... there always are.. but did anyone really put themselves out there to create a statement?Nah!... but even so we've picked a few faves from the lot who we think made an effort... however subtle.

Halle Berry- How beautiful is she?? and dont think she ever ages!! Lovely neutral sophisticated make-up topped with that fabulous rocker hair style .... brown eyeshadow and nude lips - classy chic to complement her cream coloured gown.

Scarlett Johanssen - We love the gal for all the different looks she always manages to carry off so beautifully..... lovely deep fuschia/ pruple lace gown ... topped with gorgeous brown/orange eyeshadow (love the contrast of colours used), beautifully applied to complement the look perfectly...

Mila Kunis- Stunning lavender dress.. that was thankfully not matched with lavender eyeshadow, instead complemented with a beautiful brown eye make-up and a hint of pink on the lips and cheeks... very sexy and pretty at the same time.

Mandy Moore- nude gown, nude make-up, lots of mascara and a popping orangey coral mouth that we loved. Great combo.

Michelle Williams - Love the hair do... the white dress... the almost nude make-up... but love the hint of blue eyeshadow under her lower lashline... subtle but works... keeping in with the theme of 'Blue Valentine' you think??

Anne Hathaway - Last but not least..... not sure about the hosting or all the dresses but she looked especially lovely in her red carpet gown, which was red, with striking red lipstick to match ( good 'ol classic- always a winner!) and red nail colour!

Obviously lots of Oscar excitement this am....The King's Speech team must be super excited and still celebrating....well done Colin Firth (all the MUs love him)...and we are closely looking at make-up looks and outfits blah blah...but of course also Mulain's first interest was who won Best Make-up...Rick Baker and Brit / Australian Dave Elsey for the critically acclaimed Wolfman. So all the MUs will be wanting to watch this one to see their make-up magic. Just how many Oscars has Rick Baker won?

Smoke it up!

Always wanted to do a smokey eye but not quite sure how? Then come along to our 'Smoke it up' workshop tomorrow from 3-5 pm at the fat mu academy... and learn the tips and tricks of the pros to create that perfect smokey eye that will make people wonder if you have your own personal make-up artist at home!

What do you need? Nothing... just oodles of enthusiasm..... we provide everything from products to brushes, but you can bring in your own make-up should you wish- the choice is yours!

8 hr cream!

Yes we know that there are major global movements going on right now...Earthquakes, countries's political systems / dictatorships dissolving, certain warships on the move but hello!....it's Oscar time!!!..... Hollywood gearing up for the biggest night of the year so let's not focus too much on the gloom and doom and check out the pizazz and circus around LA right now! Mulain is imagining the prep that is going on behind the scenes ... actresses hitting the spas / surgeons / skin specialists...a mad house for sure.....these ladies HAVE to look fantastique...the ultimate showcase. Can't wait to see who wins best make-up and who looks good / bad blah blah....actually Mulain is just hoping it's fun to watch and not too 'perfect'...we are looking for a bit of orginality this year....it's quite dull when everyone looks too good. Anyway...watch this space we'll write up as soon as the show starts.

Mulain's tip for any of these actresses is keep Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream on standby...just in case any outbreaks happen....dry patches, irritations...MU Natasha's skin went crazy last week....combination of too much A/C, Bombay pollution, hard work, eating and sleeping patterns all over the place (it's tough being a make-up artist you know!)....so last weekend she applied the 8 hour all over her face at night and voila it did the trick...in fact me and MU Virginia noted she has never looked better.

So if you're a pro you probably already have it...if you don't...it's a kit MU-st have my friends.....and for any of you out there non-pro...grab it anyway....it really, really is a god-send!

...live from the fat mu academy....ok class assessment is on and Mulain is with MU Virginia in class watching the batch 4 MU-ettes in action. All came in this morning and were given their creative briefs for their theatrical characters / performers....we have Show Girls / Christina Aguilera / Chinese Opera Singers / Cirque du Soleil tight-rope walkers....so all getting creative and mixing their products, referencing, using their imagination plus ALL the technical skills they have learnt so far. Just watching our Chinese Opera star being 'done' and Mulain just thought he would share a great product with you...Ben Nye's Clown White base (and the Super White Powder too). The white base is highly pigmented and is a very bright white...giving great impact for stage / distance work. The Super White powder to set it will complete the whole package and keep it in place while adding to the intensity. Make sure you use a smooth sponge for an even application..it's heavy stuff so bear that in mind...don't drag the skin, work sensitively as an artist (especially when removing!!!)......back to class I go...off to watch a Cirque du Soleil make-up underway. Go class go!

Mulain has been helping MU Virginia prep for her glamour classes in the pro course and has fallen in love with Inglot's Body Sparkles pots...what fun...a host of colours and come as pigments and glitters...love love love...can't wait to show the students. Liquid paint for face and body!

Mulain had to help MU Sunita out on a shoot this morning....the director suddenly wanted face-painting done in his TV Commercial so ran to our stock and grabbed a selection of grease, aqua and creme palettes along with Ben Nye's Magicolor Liquid Paints. Felt the urge to right about these little beauties today as they really are such a great product. Fantastic colour range, highly pigmented and paints dry quickly with a smooth and smudge-free, water-resistant finish. Apply with brush, sponge or airbrush! All available at New Beauty Centre at the Ben Nye counter. Hope MU Sunita is having fun...can't wait to hear all about it!

Burlesque Beauty!

It's showtime!

Mulain and the MUs went to see Burlesque on Thursday night and we loved the make-up in the film! For any artist go and see it for the Pizazz, Cher, Stanley Tucci and glitter!!!!! Cher is Cher is Cher and is faultless....not a word said against that woman....we touch her feet in MU-land. Stanley is a hoot! Christina is good too and sports an amazing amount of wigs and different get-ups...it's fun and frolicking and leave your worries outside le cinema my friends, go and switch off and enjoy. Watching this film made Mulain remember his most favourite glitter in the whole world...ever! Make-up Forever's Silver/multi-coloured glitter in a little pot. In Bombay? Head to In-orbit in Malad to pick a little pot. Lasts forever, and can use it minimally or with aplomb! Filmfare 2011 glam

Mulain picked out a few Indian beauties from the Filmfare red carpet....Hollywood, Bollywood....all seems the same now....generic, glossy glamour....glossy locks, shiny lips, glowing, highlighted skin....all looked great and glam but not many stood out with individual quirks or trademarks! Loads of long gowns my goodness...Mulain has picked out the Saree clad femme fatales actually...who made their mark this year. Rekha I think just gets better and better! What do you think my friends...did you think anyone had wow-factor?

Ben Nye Fall 2010 Eye shadow and Rouge colours palette

MU Sara came in today with a beautiful palette (see image above) from our favourite brand of the mu-ment Ben Nye.

Lovely matt shades with lots of neutral colours, shades of greys and a bright pink, purple and plum.

If you are a make-up artist this is a good one to get. Available at New Beauty Centre at the Ben Nye counter for only Rs 3,600.... stocks are limited..(esp since it's a late arrival considering it's a Fall palette... nevertheless a timeless collection).

MAC and Wonder Woman

MAC has teamed up with Warner Bros to create a new line of cosmetics inspired by our favourite female superhero -Wonder Woman!

Their new pop up store which boasts giant renderings of the character is based on Spring Street in New York and their 'Wonder Woman' range is available exclusively there till the 10th of Feb after which it hits stores nationwide in the US... rest of the world?... wait and watch.....

From false lashes to supersize lipglass, glitter pigments, mascara, bronzer and even nail polish matched to the one she wore, are part of this collection- not to mention the super cool packaging!

Worth getting this one, even if only as a collectors item..... ask a friend to pick one up.

I've just found a new online make-up toy of sorts to play with all thanks to Topshop!

Not only have they started an uber cool make-up range... (did you know that??).... they also have the trendiest colours and textures of the season.... and.... they're cheap as chips.. with really cool packaging ( so importante!..).....

But what's the new toy I'm talking about... well it's their instant online make-over.... all you have to do is upload your photo and play with the colours of their collection and you can do up your face in hundreds of different looks and find out what suits you best... what a great way to experiment with your look I say... get convinced then put on the real stuff!......

Don't have a picture of your self handy?....... don't fret... they have ones of models that you can try different looks on....( great for trying different combinations of colours and looks)

This 'Check it out!' video with Nicki Minaj and Will.I.Am is totally wig-tastic my darlings.....he is cool as ever and so is the Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star Intro....but....Nicki M steals the show with her fab wig changes. Make-up, styling, dancin' wicked but Mulain feels the wigs make all the difference. She is totally Gaga meets Rihanna....fun and poppy and great to tap your toe to and shake your booty my darlings. Watch the vid and see what influences you see...I am seeing Japan, cartoons, David Bowie just for starters....and Michael Jackson of course.

Inglot - AMC cream foundation

Ola mes darlings.... as promised here are the updates on Inglot products as we try them...

The first one up is an illuminating liquid foundation (they actually call cream.... why?) called 'AMC cream foundation'.

We used it in class today and we all loved the texture and colours of this fabulous product.

Lovely and creamy in texture, it glides onto the skin to give a lovely dewy finish.

Great range of colours too... so there is no excuse for grey or pale faces anymore! Watch out MAC you've got competition.... especially where these babies are concerned.... definitely prefer these liquids to the MAC liquids.

Great for normal to dry skins, good light to medium coverage with a fuss free pump bottle.... easy on the pocket too!

4 products to make you look bright, fresh and rested!

Working too hard? lack of sleep? stressed? worry not... nothing a little maquillage can't fix and the beauty is anyone can achieve this... with things you probably already possess!

Products you will need are........

1- Moisturiser- essential!!! cannot stress that enough... whatever your skin type... there is something to suit everyone! from light to heavy, creams to gels, hypoallergenic to oil free.... you name it!.... What this will do is lock moisture content in your skin... giving the appearance of a smoother , healthier, fresher complexion as opposed to a lack lustre dry and dull one.

2- Concealer- to cover any dark circles, blemishes or pigmentation and even out your skin tone.

3- Lip gloss- a slick of a nice pink, bright coral or plum can perk up and brighten your look and give the illusion of fuller lips too....

4- Eyebrows - never underestimate the power of eyebrows.... they frame your face and if well groomed can take years of your face and lift and open up your eyes and face.... need more definition? then fill in with an eyeshadow closest to your natural hair colour using light feathery strokes...

Simple enough? try it and feel and see the difference!.. it works!!

Welcome Batch 4 MU-ettes!

My darlings....so excited...batch 4 MU-ettes started their 8 week pro course today. Woo hoo! Mulain is wishing them good luck with their 8 weeks and hopes they throw themselves in to the wonderful world of make-up!!! And truly a wonderful world it is my friends. So welcome to you my dears and remember all the MUs are here with you and only here to help....and of course our other MU-ettes.
