Oscar Buzz!!!

J'aime le make-up!

Yes Mulain knows that it's October but.....can't help get excited about the Oscar buzz that is starting at the Toronto film festival.....Look out for 'The King's Speech', 'Conviction', 'Jack Goes Boating', 'Waiting For Superman', '127 Hours' and 'Black Swan'......buzz, buzz, buzz..... 'Black Swan' caught the eye of Mulain as it looks very interesting from a make-up point of view....the world of ballet, specifically Swan Lake...dramatic looks combined with theatrical looks. Can't wait to see who is in the running for Oscar for make-up and hair.

Mulain is in class with Natasha today...last day of bases and onto tech skills tomorrow.....

Hey girls and boys....hope all cool with you and your worlds. All good in MU-town.....pro class in week two...working hard and getting to know 'bases' and 'faces'....1 week intro to make-up work shop on too....and our MU-ettes are off shooting in Rajasthan with the lovely Dev Patel and Maggie Smith, Judi Dench...how cool is that? Busy little bees....

Mulain has been out and about recently and loving seeing what people are wearing make-up wise...have spotted quite a few ladies having a go with the trend of retro eyelines....some getting it right, some not at all!! Remember if you are just starting out....start with an aqua liner...that way if you make a mistake, a quick dab with a cotton bud and water, remove your 'error', 'smudge' and start again! Start small with a slight flick and out ...when you get fast and confident with this...then move onto your Sharila T 60s stuff! Easy-squeezy....also if you are using a brush that's too thin you will not get that lovely thick retro line.....try your lip brush...see the difference. Once your eyelines are on with the aqua, you can always intensify the line with MAC's Blacktrack or Lakme's liquid liner for that extra staying power.

Get lining my friends...it's a lot of fun!

Raffles Runway 54 show....credits for their student fashion show on Friday....

Mulain had great fun yesterday with our MU-ettes in the fat mu academy. They are all gearing up for the Raffles student fashion show on the 15th October, at the Intercontinental. It's a big show where fat mu students are doing the make-up and Toni & Guy students the hair. It's going to fab, fun and super fast with around 24 models to get ready. It's a retro look....so focus on eyelines, brows, lips, nails and sculpting the face! Everybody yesterday was allocated their roles by MU-ette Shilpa who is in charge of the team. MU Virginia will be there on the day to help oversee the gals.......Mulain of course will be in the VIP area watching from a comfortable seat in front...away from the madness backstage....although might pop my head around to see them all in action.

Monday, Monday and an amazing heavy shower in melting Mumbai...a welcome relief from the green-house heat!

Mulain is always preaching about putting the 'art' into make-up......well, Mulain's favourite MU-se Nomita sent us a Francois Nars link this morning about the new limited edition Bento Box Sets available from November....to-tally up our alley. Mulain is determined to get his hooves on one of these....they look just gorgeous and LOVE the concept and artistry behind it all. For those who like all things artistic, you are going to really appreciate his idea and vision....merci Monsieur Nars you are truly an artist. These sets are inspired from Japanese Kabuki theatre (dates back to 1603).....two porcelain bowels sit in a handmade bento box, each one filled with hand-poured, highly-pigmented lip colours....Maiko, a vivid red and Sakura, a bright pink! Plus there is a handmade Kabuki lip brush, it's handle wrapped in Wisteria....has Mulain wet your creative appetites? It's is a lovely way to paint your lips just as a performer would do. Magical!

Mulain was reading about the Mui Mui 'Neon' inspired make-up designs at the 2011 shows for S/S...instead of just seeing what the artist had done....thought it would be a good idea to get my own feel of 'Neon' before seeing what someone else had done......so wanted to see it, feel it, touch it....attached some images for inspiration for you too, you might find it in a tube light, a shoe, a bead, a painting.....what do we always teach in class?...COLOURs / TEXTUREs / SHAPEs....look around you and see what is Neon for you.....Enjoy M x

It's one of Mulain's favourite time of year again...The European Beard and Moustache Championships...CWG eat your heart out! Entrants come from 8 Euro countries and enter into 17 eccentric facial categories...from "Freestyle Beard"...."Natural Moustache".....to "Verdi"......all these men primp, curl, blow dry their way into the competition held in Austria.....150 entries this year....so you want inspiration for your shoots my darlings?....check out the images above. You thought India had some crazy beards and tashes....seems Europe does too!

In MU world it's colour theory class today in the pro class...tres importante!! MUs Sara, Virginia, Xavier, Menaka are all out and about prepping for shoots and fashion shows and makeovers galore!

MUs Nat and Virg went to the of Moshe's Cafe last night...right next to the fat mu academy on Hill Road...how cool is that? Mulain says...do visit it's delish!

Yummy lipsmacking gloss!

Mulain was gifted a wonderful lip gloss by Mu-ette Bianca.....she's just came back from make-up shopping in Canada...think she brought a whole plane load back with her! So now Mulain is running around town with a Bonnebell lipLITE gloss on....flavour-Cappuccino...need I say more...Mulain is lip-smacking all over Mumbai!!!!!!!!!!!! It's delish and what staying power....thank you my darling! Have n't heard of Bonnebell...it's a Canadian brand and from their website I can see they have loads of lovely flavours going on....even a latte one...ummm....nice touch.

Mulain is in hairstyling class tonight with hard working students....all doing their updos in time to Lady Gaga and Rihanna (DJ Mulain in the house).....then off to Moshe's opening next door! The MUs are now surrounded by food....Godrej supermarket, Ray's cafe and now Moshes....today is a good day.

Anyone out there stuck in a make-up rut? Umm? It happens so easily, we all get stuck in a comfortable routine, same colours, same lines day in day out...B-O-R-I-N-G! U-N-I-N-S-P-I-R-I-N-G! In a word dull.....so Mulain is saying ask yourself what you can do to revamp yourself without spending a fortune..it's easy...take a look at the images above and think which one applies to you. Look at all of them and think how you could do something different. Always focus on the eyes? ...try a strong mouth! Or vice versa. Always wear strong looks on mouth and eyes? Try the focus on just one...or neither?

It will make you feel more creative for sure..I promise and will put a Spring in your step!

Batch 3 of the pro course started today...so welcome to our fat mu make-up community! MUs have been busy all weekend....shooting with magician Ugesh Sakar.......creating a new look for him and watch him do super cool tricks! Mulain is with MU Prajakta helping run her bridal hair styling workshop at the fat mu academy. Mulain will get home and watch the CWG highlights ....glad it's started smoothly....phew!

Mulain has been watching the MUs in action over the last few weeks, busy busy.....loved the Tata show at the Taj Land's End organised by Raelle's Padamsee's ACE productions....... Virginia MU and her team (including fat mu academy students) created Bollywood heros and heroines from the 50s - 90s for them....so much fun! We had a great last batch for the pro course...Mulain hopes you are all doing ok out there my little MU-ettes? Do let Mulain know na.

MU's Xavier, Kamlesh, Joyce and Menaka are heading off to Rajasthan for a Brit film ....we shall miss them all but they'll be back in December so we'll catch up then. Bon voyage and good luck with your super star cast! What fun.

MU's Virginia and Natasha are excited about Batch 3 of the pro course starting on Monday along with the hairstyling workshop. So much to learn....chalo!

Californian Gurls!

Mulain loves Katy Perry's video featuring Snoop Dog....it's SO girly, cotton candy-like, retro, glossy and just de-li-cious...a visual delight...plus you've got pink Afro wigs, retro 50s and 60s inspired make-ups with a futuristic twist. Production design might as well be Mulain heaven..super cool. Lovely winged eye-lines...MAC's Fluid lines are great for these.....shimmery eyeshadows....try Bourjois, Barry M, MAC and fabulous body sheen going on.....try Benefit's Body shimmer....really fun...check out the vid my darlings and think pink!

2 girls... and a common love for fashion, art and ..... paper! Genius and 'so clever'.... are the words that come to mind when you see what they have managed to create with a product we use and take for granted in our everyday lives!

fat mu's bridal show

Today all my MU's did their first ever bridal show live on stage in front of 200 professionals. Mulain was very proud of his MU's Virginia, Natasha and Sara who put up a fantastic show with support from MU's Xavier, Sunita, Pooja , Prajakta and Menaka! ...and not to forget our lovely 'MU'ses Nomita and Maithili for being our beautiful models.

The show was a success and enjoyed by all and the girls demonstrated 3 modern bridal looks- true to fat mu style with a past, present and future theme.

MU Sara went on first to showcase a modern day traditional bride, using a beautiful shimmering bottle green on the eyes, with a definite modern socket contour in a matte brown followed by a matt highlighter on the brow bone... lovely cream foundation swept on with a blush brush in circular motion.... and a lovely deep berry matte mouth. Our lovely model Maithili looked stunning and very regal indeed!

Next was MU Virginia who did a retro reception look. Taking elements of the 70's which are so current and creating a beautiful kaleidescope of colours on the eyes using purples, lilacs, blues and golds ... with glitter to boost! model Nomita looked tres chic and stunning in an authentic 70's saree borrowed from mama Mulain- a sparkly lilac number to compliment the make-up, which was finished off with a lovely nude glossy mouth. Gorgeous!

The last look for the evening was by MU Natasha who introduced the future of make-up by air brushing model Sara and using traditional colours of golds and bronzes on the eyes but with a modern twist... sculpted face and nude lips completed this modern sophisticated look. MU Sara looked lovely!

All in all lovely... with pretty hairstyles created by MU's Prajakta and Menaka to compliment the entire look. Watch this space for detailed breakdowns of the make-ups and pictures too... coming soon!

Trending- spring / summer 2011- Loud mouths

More from London fashion week and the trend for seventies fashion continues. It's as if glitter and colour on the eyes and cheeks were n't enough.... colour seems to have hit the mouth too!

So take reds, oranges, fuschia or any other statement colour in either a matte or glossy texture and play up those lips!
