Maybel-ine....thank you!

What a wonderful mascara!!!

All the mascaras we take for granted....

Mulain was thinking this morning about being in 2010! Wow...sounds so futuristic non? Imagine it's one hundred years ago .....zut alors...seems like a long time ago non? And imagine what was on the make-up scene then? Not much I can tell you that....was thinking just how mu-ch we take things for granted in our everyday 2010 lives ......we have access to anything we want, from the shops or on-line, super spoilt for choice. Did you know women in 1910 made their own mascara to give them fuller lashes? A bit of petroleum jelly and coal dust et voila.....lashes to die for! Bet you did n't know Maybelline were the inventors of mascara either? (Mulain is a leetle font of knowledge my friends, not just a pretty face).......1910 - 1920 saw a huge breakthrough in the world of le maquillage......A New York chemist T.L. Williams in 1915. Williams, then in his early 20s, noticed his younger sister applying the jelly and coal dust to her eyelashes to give them a darker, fuller look. So like a good, loving brother, he adapted it in his small lab and made a product sold locally called Lash-Brow-Ine. The product was a local hit, but the awkward name held it back. His sister, who inspired the product, was named Maybel. So Monsieur Williams re-named it Maybelline, a combination of Maybel and Vaseline. In 1917 the company produced Maybelline Cake Mascara, "the first modern eye cosmetic for everyday use" and Ultra Lash in the 1960s, which was the first mass-market automatic mascara. Well done Maybelline....
Just thought you would like to know......so next time you use your wands...thank Mr. Williams and his sister Maybel (pretty name non?).....Mulain is off to head off to the beauty stores in Mumbai to see what's out there to try....will see what the latest mascara offers...vibrating, mobile, wonderful wands? How we've evolved...wunderbar...
