Getting in the MUU'D

Mulain is super excited at the fat mu academy as it's batch 6's final project tomorrow...shoot is on tomorrow! Woo hoo...so prep time is in action...MU-ettes have themes of GOLD / EGYPT / POINTILLISM / CONTRAST / BRIDES / COLOURS...truly excited to see how they do ..will they be as fantastic as the other batches? Mulain is hoping...everything crossed!

Trying out different colours to get a realistic effect.....

MU Xavier is shooting a TVC this morning and they want to create temporary tattoos on the skin...realistic looking ones. Could have done a transfer but sometimes those don't last all day and start to crack and have that unrealistic shiny film. Not great for close-ups. Also the MUs love to put their own creative stamp on a project so MU Xavier wants to create his own tattoo designs for this job. Bring on the good old Reel Colour Palettes - used by character make-ups the world over - http://www.reelcreations.com/ ...wonderful palettes which let an artist create longlasting effects, where would we be without them? Kryolan have also come up with a similiar palette, the MUs are waiting to try this one out. Will keep you posted!

Ask any of the MUs and we will tell you the most underappreciated and undervalued feature on your face are your EYEBROWS!! Yes that's right...personally or professionally if you don't get them right they can make or break your make-ups! Mulain's top tip...don't follow fashions...follow the look that suits you! 80s brows are are lovely and full, lots of character, 30s brows are thin and even just pencilled in....from one extreme to another....so do your research and see what you like and what you don't. You might like Karishma Kapoor's brows from 1998? You might love the Brooke Shields look? Try to avoid black hard pencilled in brows (unless you are Cher)....there is an art to it my friends....feeling lost and confused?....mail us or call us and we can help too! MU Sara is an brow expert and LOVE LOVE LOVES to rework someone's brows...it's life-changing :).

Homework at the fat mu academy is going to see Harry Potter...the last MU-vie...sob sob, the pro batch are doing their character make-up class next week, so great film to go and see on the big screen. Mulain is so sad...it's the end of a journey for all fans...expect lots of tears and angst. On the brighter side go and see amazing effects and make-up artistry at it's best. Superb talent on this film, so get inspired!

MU Xavier is just back from Delhi where he was working on Dial 888 - Raell Padamsee's play with Kunaal Roy Kapur and a host of talented actors. Super fast changes back stage....10 seconds being the quickest one...changing one actor into another character....it's not easy being a make-up / hair artist my friends. Well done Xavier!

Airbrushing week at the fat mu academy....lots of technical stuff to learn, play time tomorrow. Can't wait to show you some pix.

Hope all surviving the rains and not feeling washed out? Mulain was feeling a little under the weather so immediately splashed some Cha-cha tint from Benefit on my cheeks, just what the Doctor ordered...felt brill again. You might want to try that my darlings...Cha cha cha!

I see dead people!

Mulain is completely open-minded and worldly wise blah blah blah...but this blows me away...Illamasqua...UK....London ...teaming up with an old established funeral house offering make-up for dead people......I have no words. 'The final act of self-expression' gives people who value their appearance and would never be seen dead (excuse the pun :) ) without le maquillage the chance of having their make-up done while they are on show in their coffins, entering the after-life looking fantastic. Well guess there is a market for everything....and Illamasqua are all about shaking up the world of cosmetics.

What a popping, mood lifting colour na?

MU Virginia's lil toes....

After last night's horror, along with the gloomy heavy rains....Mulain felt truly down in the dumps....don't understand people bombing innocent civilians....really. But Mulain truly believes that life goes on and we MU-st n't let these men get us down and stop us living our lives of liberty. To solve the glumness and blueness MU Virginia and I grabbed OPI's La Paz-itiviely Hot nail polish and painted away....not only therapeutic ....the colour also cheered us up and made us feel better - celebrating life is the theme today my friends.

Will be thinking of all lost souls today....and all that were affected. Shame on you that have done this....Mulain x

One of the academy's favourite palettes...is that MU Virginia hiding behind?

These are the shades ....

Mulain just loves this palette...today we are using it in the bridal class on the pro course. Ice / Iced Gold / Aztec Gold / Silver / Golden Apricot / Indian Copper / Bronze / Starry Night....all inspire us as make-up artists to create a wow Indian bride. These shades just lend themselves to the Indian bridal look....mix them in with a fashion bride / traditional bride / blushing bride :)...use them on their own....over a cream shadow perhaps? A really lovely palette to have in your kit. Bridal season is coming up my friends...so brace yourselves for the wedding season and invest in this one. It's a MU-st have!

The MUs are off to the cast and crew screening of ZNMD tomorrow night - we cannot wait...super excited! MU Sunita has been with Kalki for the promo tour doing her maquillage...can't wait to hear about the road trip ...what a hoot! It's sure to be a lovely mu-vie...do go and see it all my darlings. The fat mu team worked on it for the Indian schedule and had a super duper time with the talented Zoya A. She is a great director, a fat mu MU-se for sure.

Quick tip from Mulain..doing a black and white shoot and need to know how colours read in black and white...take a photo of your colour palettes and then turn the image to black and white....think black and white and shades of grey....and texture of course - never forget that!

60s eye-lines in action.....



Curling lashes before BIG false lashes put on....

Geometric eyelines......

MU Virginia was running 60s class today....just loo-ve seeing all the different 60s eyelines / shapes and textures being used. Remember it's all focus and emphasis on the dramatic eyes. If you want to recreate good eyelines at home make sure you have good tools....an eyeline brush / or old lip brush will give you a good, strong effect. Mulain's tip for today is not to rely wholly on the tool most eyelines give you ie...brush and liquid liner combined. Always buy a separate brush, this will last longer and give you more control on your lines. Remember it's a confident strong line not a spindly, split line which can happen with the brushes that are given to you.

Mulain says head to Kryolan and pick up the 5 colour aqua eyeliner palette - so you can vary your colour and know you will get a good, solid eyeline from this.

Keep lips and cheeks light - the eyes are the star of the show! Go for full volume mascara or lashes if you dare! Getting lost.....google Cleopatra and see what inspires you! Yes eyelines go back that far my darlings.

20s class yesterday at the fat mu academy was super fun as per usual...lots of smoke, lots of rose bud lips...silent stars from yesteryear were created. Wondered where the smokey eye came from...well now you know..1920s! The smokey eye never goes out of fashion and is always seen as a glamour classic. In fact Mulain and the MUs will be running 'the art of the smokey eye' workshop on 16th July. Do contact us for more info.

Mulain braved the Mu-mbai rains today to head to Mayur Creations with MUs Virginia and Sunita. It's a wonderful little shop full of little creative gems for your shoots, bridals, events...any dressing up basically. fat mu are designing the make-up and hair for a 1920s play and were on a creative reccie around Bombay. Found the perfect pieces (readymade fingerwaves..brilliant) in this shop and the owners / team were so helpful and kind and nice and let us try out pieces - on us and them!! Great fun.

Mulain is super excited about fat mu's next 'hair-styling' workshop starting next Monday, 4th July. It's an evening workshop from 6pm til 8.30pm run by MU Prajakta, fresh off her run from 'The Sound Of Music' where she has been creating retro styles night after night! This workshop is designed for people who need to style hair in a professional way...hairdressers or make-up artist's who need to be creative and directional with hair.
