Bald Gaga!

Mulain saw this a few days ago and was trying to work out real bald or baldcap?...Was watching the clip of her singing on the Paul O'Grady show and thought it was a bald cap...as thought I could see the edges along the forehead and it looked very shiny and different to her face texture..am so curious now....anyone know what the real deal is?

Bye bye dark circles....

Want to get rid of unwanted blemishes and those dark circles and look like you've just had 10 hours of sleep without having to load your face with make-up?... then correct concealing is the answer....

A lot of make-up companies do concealers from light to heavy coverage.....brighteners like the YSL touch eclat which is a fantastic product... but if you're a medium to dark skinned person a lot of these might took too light or go grey/ashy on the skin- means wrong colour- a big no no mes amis... and so look to MAC.

Yes I know its a MAC world and we always try and tell people there's a whole other world out there too when it comes to make-up.... but when it comes to concealers MAC and Bobbi Brown outshine as our favourites! .... and since BB isn't available in India yet.... MAC it is!!

... and so... what ever your skin tone, type and whatever your level of coverage required... there is something for everyone......

Light coverage- don't have particularly dark circles or problem skin but still need that flawless appearance?- opt for their select cover concealers or moisture select cover for dry skins..... creamy and light and easy to blend into the skin for a lovely finish without looking like you have anything on.

Medium -Full coverage or dark circles - opt for their studio finish pure orange 'corrector' and pat over dark circles.... then select a studio finish concealer or studio sculpt concealer in your skin tone and pat over the orange.... don't forget to cover the orange and blend the edges .....et voila!.. bye bye dark circles....

The orange can also be mixed in with the concealer shade and applied if intense coverage not required to cover the not so dark circles.... apply with a medium firm brush, or your fingertips- and don't forget to set with powder! tres importante or it wont last too long.....

Duraline by Inglot

Just yesterday a question was posed about if we could bring dried up gel eyeliners back to life ... and guess what... today the answer came in the form of 'Duraline' by Inglot.... a liquid that works with shadows, pigments and glitter to transform into waterproof liners, and a little mixed in with dried up gel liners brings it back to form- tried and tested!

Childlike make-up artistry

Mulain spotted (excuse the pun) this make-up design from the 2011/12 shows and loved the simplicity of it and playfulness. Remember when you were a child? No inhibitions...you were free to draw, sketch, colour in, draw a shape, rub it out, start again, turn it into something else, splash on some colour....that's the beauty of being a child...you don't care! As adults it's so sad my friends....we lose this magical gift...we become frightened to let lose and 'have a go'...we don't want to make mistakes...little do we realise it's the key to 'authentic creativity'....(see www.ted.com Malcolm McClaren's talk).....so my message today my darlings is dig deep within, listen to the child within and go for it! Cha cha tint!

"A burst of juicy mango flush!"...ok that's what Mulain has heard about Benefit's new cheek and lip tint. You know the MUs love love love BeneTint and Posie Tint well now totally ready to fall in love with this little treasure. Cha Chat Tint! Love the name and going by the previous tints it has to be a little bit of magic. Mulain is off tomorrow to explore. Uber excited as just seeing the glorious mango colour and imagining the wonderful sun-kissed effect it will deliver makes me so excited for all of you.

Stick it up!

Want an instant pick-me-up... or look like you've just caught some healthy sun on the beach? Then head to your nearest NYX counter and pick up their 'Tango with Bronzing Stix' also called 'Bronzy Lambada'... for a subtle sexy beach babe look... or for something a bit more intense get their 'Cha cha with Sun God' stick... (who comes up with these names I wonder..? hmmm...)

The best lip balm in the world..ever!!!

Ok...Mulain is prone to exaggeration but am so enamoured with Waterline Cosmetic's lip balm that I feel I mu-st tell you about it. I have already blogged about lovely Bharti who owns / runs Waterline Cosmetics (we met her at the Bandra Farmers' Market earlier this year) but am raving today about the lip balm she lovingly makes...it makes your lips sooooo soft...NATURALLY.....has a lovely rosy tint to it....NATURALLY....and my lips feel comfortable all day....MU Virginia used this balm while filming on Singularity in Orchha in the middle of 45 degree dry,dry, dry MP heat and still her lips felt great using this. Mulain has popped to London and during the flight I used this balm and lips feel smackingly good this morning. MU-ah!

Bharti will be running a workshop at the fat mu academy in July where she is going to show all her wonderful, NATURAL skin care products (and cosmetics) and did I also mention she makes the world's best chocolates!!?? What a woman! Will keep you posted on that one....off to London to dazzle at a party at the Kensington Roof Gardens....back to Mu-mbai asap my darlings!!!

Clay masks

An at home remedy for clean clear skin.... and according to my naturopath, anti ageing too!hmmm.....

On Sunday Mulain was noticing the wee little blackheads starting to pop up... it had been a while since I had gone for a clean up as my favourite skin therapist is at home with her new born babies... and so out came the clay... real stuff that I actually picked up from my potter's studio.... and the results were terrific! Shiny clean skin!

I highly recommend this (and no it's not just for oily skins)... get a basic fullers earth clay and mix in with water or milk (if you got dry skin) to form a paste and apply all over face, neck and decolletage.... let it dry and remove with a soft wet flannel/washcloth ...et voila... moisturise after for those with drier skins..... loo-verly.

I would suggest doing this twice a month especially for those of you soaking up the Mu-mbai pollution!

Easy peasy- try it!!

Mulain put a little silver glitter beauty spot on MU Virginia today...inspired by our Gaga workshop we added a bit of theatre/drama/showbiz to the face....I did n't want normal black so grabbed one of our lovely Ben Nye Aqua glitters and an eyeliner brush and dabbed on a small circle just under the corner of the eye...instant Disco Drama...what fun for a night out...different with an understated subtle daring attitude. We did silver but you could do blue, green, gold, red, purple....Fun with a capital 'F' my friends....try it this weekend!

Make-up education my darlings...Mulain was delighted to see in Timeout Mumbai's Critic's Choice section our fat mu workshop and pro course advertised. Mulain was reminded again about the power of make-up...while reviewing the students' work for the fat mu academy...I looked at MU-ette Clover in 3 different 'avatars'...1960s - a pirate - a catwalk creation....she is totally different in each one! One model (MU-ette Clover), 3 different make-up artists (MU-ettes Swapna, Incia, Farzana)...amazing work and we are so proud of all our MU-ettes really...so hard-working and creative. Love this session as love watching all the students putting into practice all that they have learnt in character class. Pirates of the Caribbean - at the fat mu academy

Another pirate....

A pirate in the making....yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Mulain loved seeing all the students working with their character looks - facial today and creating theatrical pirate characters. We all pretended to be pirates in Captain Jack Sparrow's world...great fun and how into the characters everyone felt, amazing the power of make-up. We started off creating the look with a simple colour Kryolan grease palette and setting it with Ben Nye's Neutral set powder.....we broke down the skin, put in stubble, darkened the undereyes, had Jack Sparrow eyes, and created sunburn...all with the right brushes and tools and sponges but essentially just working with one palette. We then recreated the same look but imagined it for cinema and the big screen. So we swapped grease palettes for Reel / Illustrator palettes and more sophisticated products...subtle layering of make-up suited for film and not theatre....very important to know and feel the difference.

Don't have a grease palette? GET ONE.....essential for your kit for any emergency situation.. Kryolan is great! ......Don't have a Reel palette either? Save up for one...and then GET ONE.....not available in India :(...know someone travelling put the word out there, most pro make-up stores sell them...in the UK try MAP / SCREENFACE...
