MU-ettes final assessment

Mulain hopes you all had a good weekend......the MUs were super busy....Saturday was the final assessment of the pro make-up students....lots of concentration and fun was had by all. Mulain took a few sneaky pics, see above. Sunday was a 24 hour shoot for MU Virginia and the team....lots of make-up looks, rain showers...yes think the rains have come my friends! MU Natasha attended the IIFA's where the PAA team won best make-up....huge congratulations to them.

Character week this week in class....intro to special effects and the essentials of learning how to breakdown a script. It's the students last week....our little MU-ettes are out there in the big world wide from next Monday.

Thank God It's Friday.....Party night for us....winding down from our airbrushing week.....what a week it's been.....Lovely Jillain Lagasse has been a super-trouper and an inspiring tutor for our fat mu students...thank you Missy J.....don't worry if you missed her ...she's a-comin' back! Yes that means more airbrushing sessions over the monsoon months and into Diwali time too.

MU Natasha is living it up in Sri Lanka...IIFA parties....lucky girl! MU Virginia is gearing up to a 24hr shoot tomorrow.....outside.....eeek...now that will be hot, hot, hot.

Mulain is still in the academy - full on airbrushing week!.....All the MUs are in action...Jillian Lagasse our wonderful tutor is working her magic in class and guiding our students towards being airbrush superstars!!!!! It's technical, involves lots of skill and practice...but Mulain reminds you that hard work always pays off....so keep going everyone.

MU Natasha is in Sri Lanka for the IIAF awards with Dominie Till. Dominie and Christian Tinsley created and designed the PAA look and Natasha was part of their team in creating the look for the Big B on a daily basis......hours of work! Good luck PAA team....hope they win. Everyone look out for MU Natasha....Woo hoo!

Girlies....quick product tip today...Mulain was trying out some new pencils that MU Natasha had bought last week....was rather impressed with Chambor's new pencil range...especially 'Teal Dazzle'...lovely colour and long-lasting.....it stays even in this crazy Mumbai heat. Nice little pick-me-up pencil that won't break the bank! Mulain recommends....

Airbrushing class was good today.....all working hard and practicing diligently......Natasha MU off to the IIFAs tomorrow.....Mulain may go with her let's see....will keep you posted on any news I hear....am sure the PAA team will scoop best make-up! Will watch and find out.....

In class now, having a fabulous time watching our students....will write more tomorrow but do please 'ave a look at our photos....

And IPA alchohol (100%) for quick on-set clean-ups...harsh on brushes so only use while shooting or on the job!

Mulain is so excited for tomorrow...Airbrushing is on!....Jillian LaGasse our airbrush instructor has arrived from London town and is loving India and very excited about starting the airbrushing workshops tomorrow at the fat mu academy currently running in Bandra...Woo hoo!

We have been chatting make-up all weekend and swapping and exchanging ideas and creative thoughts....Mulain loo-ves getting his mind stretched and pushed! Mulain was washing his brushes with a gentle soap at home....and Jillian said she washes her brushes with Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil Face Wash. She said she loves it as it's gentle on the brushes while also 'killing all the nasties'...meaning it's anti-bacterial properties clean your tools properly thus protecting you and your kit! Tres importante my darlings.......also remember to rinse with water after and shape your brushes while drying....never soak them upside-down!!!!

Look after your brushes and they will look after you!

MAC Constructivist

MAC Constructivist

Mulain popped into MU Virginia's shoot for Puma and noted that the product of the day was MAC's Constructivist. The model was very Amazonian and the brief was sporty / androgynous / edgy / stark....so lots of contouring was done to create the edge and mood. MAC Contstructivist was used under the cheekbones, under the jawline, along the eye socket line and in the hollow of the insides of the eyes...running into the brows....Virginia MU then built up the base over this...using our fabulous Bobbi Brown cream base palette. A mix of black and dark brown eyeshadow (thank you Ben Nye) was then added onto the lid area and eye area, over the Constructivist and was 'winged' out towards the hair line. Nothing was put underneath the eyes, thus creating a very stark / edgy look.....no blusher and we tried black lips initially then switched to a cold coffee shade using Bobbi Brown's lip palette. Eyebrows were defined and brushed up and kept in place using Ben Nye's Transparent mascara. Hair was pretty wild and textured to contrast against the make-up look and the model was doing lots of jumping so we got some crazy hair!!!!! Mulain loo-ved it.

Can't wait to see the finished shots.....off for a rest now....been a busy week....relaxing weekend for Mulain as next week we are running our Airbrushing workshop! Too excited........

UK Summer time....it's here....Europe is hotting up...

Mulain has been super busy running around with the MUs from shoots to the academy to meetings....and in this heat....it's really too much...what a heatwave we are having my friends....rain pleeeeeassssssssssssse come! Spoke to my European chums and family and everyone is de-lighted that the long, cold Winter 'as gone and the Sun is out...finally.....so be safe in the Sun my darlings...but have FUN too!

Love what MAC have done for this Summer....super cute and great products to invest in, plus there is that lovely little bag too which you can put all your beach products in...seems they have thought of everything.

MU Natasha was overseeing the bridal make-up practical in class today.....MU Virginia was shooting for a Puma campaign, will tell you all about it tomorrow my friends.

Lashes galore

One of our MU-ettes in our academy showed us her false lash collection she has started.....bravo mademoiselle....such a good idea....one can never have enough lashes....from individual ones, to half strips to full strips to traffic stopping ones.....start now and get collecting, an artiste never knows when she/he will need them. In Mumbai Kryolan stocks them, as do MAC and BandD.....if abroad head to Boots on the highstreet or any professional make-up store.....Screenface, Charles Fox in London do great ones.

Bridal practical assessment tomorrow in class, MU Natasha will be over-seeing. MU Virginia will be shooting at lovely Mehboob Studios, in air-conditioning....lucky MU!!! I will dash between both to keep myself on the pulse with everything in the MU world.

Colour combos!

Mulain is asking you today....how daring are you with your colour combinations?.......We are all so safe non? Neutral tones with maybe a colourful tint on the lips, or a pop of colour on the nails, we are getting more and more daring with colours for sure, slowly, slowly.....and Mulain feels that's the way it should be. Watching MU Virginia's Indigo Airlines TVC, Mulain noticed the colour combos....the female flight attendants had orange lips and pale blue eyeshadow.......also spotted lime green eye shadow with a cerise lipstick combination. What fun!

Why not head to your nearest make-up shop and see what inspires you....have a play....see what you can come up with....bottom line ....Mulain says...get creative!

MAC's India Blue nail polish...

MU Natasha picked up a new polish by MAC this weekend and was sporting it in the fat mu office this morning. It's a limited edition 'India Blue' colour and is really quite an unusual colour, great for Indian skins and non-Indians.....basically it looks good on everyone!

It's bridal week in the academy so everyone getting into different types of bridal looks....traditional Indian, Western, alternative.....lots of different brides to learn about and research. Mulain is off to find out how many States make up India.....want to encourage all our students to understand 'any' traditional bridal look from Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Goan, etc etc....it's a huge subcontinent...so get to know it my friends.

Mulain thought this snap of model Fiona Thomas from MINT magazine is a lovely example of a clean, nude look popped with a current lipstick shade....Our MU Sara created the make-up look here and mixed up a beautiful orange / coral creation....very effective I am sure you will agree.

MU academy assessed photoshoot today....all students getting their models ready for this black and white shoot ......let's see if they can create beautiful sculpted looks....Mulain is off to find out.

Cannes glamour

Cannes 2010 is full-on red carpet glamour.....all the beautiful people have gathered there to chat, watch a few movies, mingle, drink some bubbly....how Mulain wishes he was there to soak it all up. Of course I would n't desert the MUs in the middle of their 8 week pro course....! Duty first my friends...so am watching it all from the television, computer and our newspapers. Mrs. Bachchan is certainly upping her PR machine at the moment....schmoozing with Scorsese et al...flashing that dazzling smile.....sporting different red carpet, glamour looks every day.

In class today we were looking at current trends, pops of colour, flawless glowing skin, statement lips.... we then added this to creating a red carpet glamour look, great fun in class....everyone glammed up with nowhere to go! Mulain again was reminded just how he loo-ves MAC pigments....just wow on the eyes....especially Bluebrown...on it's own or over black it just adds star value and instant glamour. Not sure it's available in Mumbai...will 'ave to check that with you my darlings....Antique Gold is also a sure winner.....

So next time you need a touch of glam (personally or professionally) get your pigments out and play around. Subtle as a wash or intense drama that's longlasting...it's your choice.

Lipstick!

For all you lipstick lovers out there....go bold and striking this summer with hot pink or orange lips! That was the brief for one of the TVC's that MU Natasha recently completed... a look to go with the latest collection of brightly coloured scooters to hit the stands soon for the young, daring woman with an attitude.

Natasha used hot pink on one girl and a bright orange on the other- and how fun were they!! The girls looked amazing- instant va va voom factor and it just spelt fashion. Try it out. Pair it up with a retro look or wear alone as its a statement in itself. Add gloss or wear it matt.... and for added impact and longer wearability... fill in lips with lip liner first and then put on the lipstick!
